My entire @Sea_Legacy team was pushing through their tears and emotions while documenting this dying polar bear. It’s a soul-crushing scene that still haunts me, but I know we need to share both the beautiful and the heartbreaking if we are going to break down the walls of apathy. This is what starvation looks like. The muscles atrophy. No energy. It’s a slow, painful death. When scientists say polar bears will be extinct in the next 100 years, I think of the global population of 25,000 bears dying in this manner. There is no band aid solution. There was no saving this individual bear. People think that we can put platforms in the ocean or we can feed the odd starving bear. The simple truth is this—if the Earth continues to warm, we will lose bears and entire polar ecosystems. This large male bear was not old, and he certainly died within hours or days of this moment. But there are solutions. We must reduce our carbon footprint, eat the right food, stop cutting down our forests, and begin putting the Earth—our home—first. Please join us at @sea_legacy as we search for and implement solutions for the oceans and the animals that rely on them—including us humans. Thank you your support in keeping my @sea_legacy team in the field. @beardsley_canada But it's possible for those of us who ARE in 'first world countries' ☺ And the non first world people are probably contributing the LEAST to the causes which are affecting the above creatures (plus those who are too poor to afford meat usually eat vegetarian/vegan, it's just not by freedom of choice) It's those of us who use mass produced factory farmed animal products who can reduce our consumption ☺

@e.roka From everything I've read and watched it's the biggest thing we as individuals can do to help reduce the pain of these poor creatures. You can definitely help! Maybe something to think about ☺

All you hateful people leaving such hateful messages need to understand your anger is misplaced, you need to turn to your senators, your governors, and your congressman. United States along with China leave the biggest carbon footprint than any other country, yet we still choose to pull out of the Paris Accord due our “smartest” President not believing in global warming. When a country like China gets on board along with North Korea you know we’re doing something wrong. Getting upset at these people for one video is missing the bigger picture of the actual crisis at hand. Instead of getting upset and accusing these people ( who risk their lives in some of these location ) of being assholes why not turn to yourself and ask what you are doing? I started by going cruelty free, everything used on my body is cruelty free. From there I started using reusable bags and looking for products that are not packaged in plastic. This was the hardest part and I’m still working on it, I stopped eating pork completely and rarely eat red meat and buy locally as much as possible when it comes to chicken and eggs. I even have some vegan dinners about 3 times a week. I also look at ingredients in products and don’t purchase anything with palm oil due to our rainforests. These are small measures, but everyone can do things like this it will make a great deal of difference.

I have a new fine art coffee table book coming out this summer and I can’t decide if this picture should be in it or not? Hundreds of thousands of King Penguins fill every square metre of beach and valley floor of St. Andrews Bay, South Georgia, Antarctica. To stand on this hillside looking down on this density of penguins is nearly impossible to process. It is truly one of the most overwhelming and humbling moments I have ever experienced. With that said, sometimes emotions affect our judgement as to whether it is a good photograph or not. You can’t hurt my feelings. Yes or no and feel free to say why. #gratitude #nature #penguin

I post pictures of fat bears, average bears, well fed bears and when I photograph them, I post pictures of starving bears also. So, here is a fun moment of a healthy mom sharing her seal kill with her young cub. #natueintheraw #bear #hunting #nature #naturelovers #adventure

Happy #WorldWhaleDay. Killer whales are much more appropriately referred to as orcas and are not whales at all. In fact, they are the largest member of the dolphin family. Did you know that there has never been a recorded case of an orca killing a person in the wild and yet they are one of the most feared animals on this planet. We must change our perceptions of these beautiful, highly intelligent, gentle and vulnerable species. For those of you who expressed your desire to see the orcas of Norway protected from oil exploration, I thank you everyday. I am so excited that @sea_legacy is going back this November to continue on with this important campaign. While on a @sea_legacy expedition last summer, we were fortunate enough to witness these belugas swim, some with their calves, into a shallow water estuary. It is important that when arctic sea ice melts we do not see this as an opportunity for new industrial opportunities but rather, see it for what it is; as a loss of habitat for the species that rely on the ice to exist there. We are #turningthetide at @sea_legacy. Come join us!

You can’t get much more love and attention than this. Parents hover over their ever growing chick. Parents will go to sea for days or even weeks at a time to feed on ice fish and krill. They store this food and then walk the long ten miles back to the colony to feed their single chick. This piece is currently hanging as a large fine art print in the @paunicklengallery #happyfeet #emperorpenguins #MPA #20by2020
