Somehow this past year I’ve fallen into doing more and more wildlife photography, and when I’m working I feel just lit up with gratitude that I get to do this for a living. - Sometimes on shoots like this one I get so deliriously happy that I feel like I want to give something back as a thank you for being able to do this... like when someone gives you such a thoughtful gift that it makes you want to do the same for them... But I wouldn’t know what to give, or even who to give it to. - I guess the best thing I can do is get better at my work, take better photos to highlight issues that need attention, and create work that will make people pause, listen, and make a change. - It feels like a gift, but I guess more than that it’s an opportunity to work for the best thing about this world - it’s wild places. 🐒🐧🐺🦒🦇🦍🦈🦅🦏🦋🐋🐛🦌🐻🐅🦁🦓🐨🐘🦑🦔 . . . . . #awesomeearth #whywecreate #alifeofintention #earthoutdoors #in2nature #passionpassport #nakedplanet #natgeoyourshot #camp4pix #naturephoto #protectthewild #welivetoexplore #mountainstones #exploreourearth #conservation #wildlifeconservation #protectwildlife #amazingplaces #forahappymoment #africalove #thisisafrica #lovetheworld #welivetoexplore #lonelyplanet #gritandvirtue #eyeson #yourshot #freedomthinkers #liveforthestory

I would like to remember and mention that exactly on the 5th day of the month of December the day of the conservation was celebrated and what better way resposting the photographs and the message of our beloved @amivitale ・・・ Today is #WildlifeConservationDay, a good time to think about and help all of the incredible animals who need us. Hog deer, The Indian Hog Deer's coat is quite thick and generally a uniform dark-brown in winter except for the underparts of the body and legs which are lighter in colour. During late spring, the change to a summer coat of rich reddish brown commences although this may vary between individuals. Many hog deer show a dark dorsal stripe extending from the head down the back of the neck and along the spine. In summer, there is usually a uniform row of light-coloured spots along either side of the dorsal stripe from the shoulders to the rump. The tail is fairly short and brown but tipped with white. The underside of the tail is white and the deer can fan the white hairs out in a distinctive alarm display. #nikonindia #wildlifeconservationday #wildlife #wildlifephotography #tarkikvermaphotography #wildlifephotographer #hogdeer #deer

Earlier this week staff and volunteers from the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project in Phuket successfully released a family of three white-handed gibbons back into the wild. Gibbons became extinct on Phuket in the 1980's but thanks to the project there are now 30 wild gibbons living in the protected rainforest of Khao Pra Thaew Non-hunting Area. Gibbons are still used in tourism as photo props and sold as illegal pets at the black market. By educating tourists and the locals we are hoping to stop these horrible practices that once led to complete extermination of these wonderful apes on Phuket. #grp_phuket #gibbons #whitehandedgibbon #hylobateslar #conservation #volunteering #wildlifeconservationday #donttakephotoswithwildlife #wildlifephotography #phuket #thailand #livingfree #intothewild #apes #canon

According to the traits ingrained in jackals’ behaviour, they make interesting and varying sounds. These sounds are meant to communicate with each other by yell, yap, or distinctive siren-like howl. Moreover, the sound also alerts others when a kill is located. Great move by @Instagram! Instagram will now deliver a pop-up message whenever someone searches for, or clicks on, a hashtag that may be associated with posts that encourage harmful behavior to animals or the environment. The first step towards decreasing the amount of abusive animal selfies is by educating people about the harm the photos can cause. #Repost @woodlandparkzoo ・・・ In appreciation of @instagram for their launch of a new tool to stop #wildlife trafficking. On Monday, @instagram announced searches for certain wildlife hashtags would trigger a pop up notifying the user of harmful behavior associated with animal selfies. This is a great step in the right direction to stop exploitation of exotic wildlife. Those “cute” animal selfies never capture what goes on behind the scenes to get that animal to cooperate. A lot of these animals are illegally taken from the wild, kept in horrible conditions, weaned from their mothers too early (popular with tiger cubs), or forced to go through a taming process (elephants and dolphins). This industry is saturated with abuse and neglect, it’s not right to commercialize on these animals and make money off of their suffering so people can get “likes” on their SM profiles. I encourage everyone to research the reality of tiger cub petting, swimming with dolphins, sloth and koala selfies, walking with lions, riding elephants, etc. etc. etc. Hats off to Instagram for taking a step to help combat this. *Swipe to see the warning* Tiger pic 📷: @stevewinterphoto . . . . #slothselfie #koalaselfie #tigerselfie #elephantride #swimwithdolphins #dolphinkiss #wildlifeconservation #wildanimalsarenotpets #wildanimalsarenotaccesorries #wildlifeconservationday #worldwildlifeconservationday #wwcd #keepwildlifewild #endexploitation #emptythetanks

#WildlifeConservationDay #Repost @natgeo (@get_repost) ・・・ Photo by @kirstenluce for @natgeo | A young man snaps a selfie on Isla de los Micos, or Monkey Island, in the Colombian Amazon. @Regrann from @raewynngrant - Wildlife ecologists like me walk a fine line between using photography and film to communicate our science work to the public and exploiting wildlife for personal gain. #wildlifeselfies are a dangerous trend that threaten the persistence of critically #endangered species and degrade the #conservation work that many of us are doing. It’s my responsibility to always frame my cute/dangerous/exciting wildlife media in the framework of rigorous science. Handling wild animals is a byproduct of the research, data collection, and conservation work I do to ensure the protection and future of #wildlife and wild #ecosystems. For #WildlifeConservationDay I’m offering a behind the scenes look at newborn black bears. We go into female bear dens while they #hibernate to count the cubs and monitor their health. For the short time the cubs are away from their mother, we have to snuggle them so they stay warm. We tag the cubs so they can track their survival rates over their first few years. These #data tell us vital information about the health of the bear population and the ecosystem. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 Video credit: @peter_houlihan (who also got to cuddle cubs - check his account) . . . #actuallivingscientist #raegoeswild #blackandSTEM #pocinscience #womeninscience #blackbears #cuddlingcubs #bestjobintheworld #adventuremamas #unlikelyhikers #vanguardstem #brownpeoplecamping #melaninbasecamp #outdoorafro
